Elizabeth Sudmeier (They/She) is an emerging artist in the Denver, Colorado theatre scene. They graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in theatre studies with an emphasis in directing.
They find meaning in the dark beauty of what it is to be a human being in the 21st Century in the United States of America. Much of their work is inspired by their experience as a queer, feminine-presenting person and the ever-changing politics that affect the world they’ve grown up in. During difficult times, they believe that the most impactful thing a young person can do is create art that asks, “Where did we come from? And what will we do now?” To stand by and watch as the world shifts is not an option.
Shows that they have directed include The Early Girl by Caroline Kava (2024), a show set in a brothel in the 1980s that depicts the importance of autonomy and sisterhood, Natural Shocks by Lauren Gunderson (2025), which illustrates the likelihood of domestic abuse and warns the audience to pay attention to the signs, and ART by A.R. Corwin (2025). This one-act play takes place following the #MeToo movement in Hollywood and how it affects a specific director and his actress.
Other credits include assistant directing for Emily Coleman’s direction of Getting Near to Baby by Audrey Couloumbis (2025) and assistant directing for Gabriella Pafumi’s direction of Jean and Beatrice by Carole Frechette (2023). Stage managing Samantha Heppenstall’s direction of The Trail to Oregon by Jeff Blim, Matt Lang, and Nick Lang (2024), and stage managing Jaycie Stindt’s direction of You Got Older by Clare Barron (2026).
They have experience working as an assistant head charge painter for Northern Colorado’s summerstock Little Theatre of the Rockies (2025), as well as working in the paint shop for UNC’s mainstage productions.
